The easiest way to tell if you have a 2nd generation iPod touch or a 3rd generation iPod touch when the screen is off where is the screen connector??
The screen connects to the main board in the top left hand corner on both models. 
Above: This is the 2nd Generation iPod touch, the screen/digitiser connector position is high on the main board flex. The place you are looking for this is the top left hand corner once the screen has been removed.
Above: This is the 3rd Generation iPod touch, the screen/digitiser connector position is low on the main board flex.
The place you are looking for this is the top left hand corner once the screen has been removed.

iPhone 3gs Backlight Coil Repair PortsmouthThere id a few ways this fault can occur: when the unit has liquid inside, it dosent have to be wet to suffer liquid damage. Another way is that the LCD has been removed from the unit while the unit was still powered on either by accident such as dropping or by someone trying to repair the unit. About the only thing you can try if your not confident with a soldering iron is to change the LCD. The 6R8 coil or backlight coil is like a fuse, it has thin copper wire inside that breaks and causes you to have a dim or no backlight to your iPhone. iPad Volume Icon Permanently On Screen |

If the volume icon stays on the screen of your iPad, iPad2, iPad3 then chances are it will need to be repaired. The most common cause we have found for this is accident damage to the iPads case, around the volume control area. The pressure from the way the damaged case then sits can cause the volume buttons circuit to not operate as it should. The result is either the volume control stick on or wont work at all. You can normally tell if the "click" feel has gone from the buttons. If there is no click at all there is to much pressure on the iPads controls inside. The only way of fixing this iPad problem is to open the unit up and either change the part, or loosen the screws holding the volume controls ever so slightly. The screen on the iPad needs to be removed for this repair to be carried out. Please contact the iPod Repair Doctor if you need advice or help with this repair. |

"I have broken the power/volume cable on my ipod 4th gen touch while trying to repair it" So you have decided to repair your iPod Touch 4th generation and in the process managed to tear the power volume cable.... Its not the end of your devide or the end of the world. This part can be replaced. The repair requires soldering and we dont recommend you have a go if your not capable of using a soldering iron. The power/ volume cable as it called is glued and soldered to the main board and the soldewr needs to be carefully heated to be removed. Do not add to much heat or you will remove the pads that are glued to the main board.
